Thread Count Vol. 2
On getting dressed for the holiday soirées, what's in the chat & various thought bubbles
Chestnuts are roasting on an open fire, Jack Frost is nipping at your nose, Yuletide carols are being sung by the choir, and you’re still standing in front of your closet deciding what the #%@* to wear to your holiday soirée. Thread Count is back for volume two featuring this month’s digest of what’s hot, what’s not and what’s going down at HQ this holiday season. And so we offer this simple phrase to you fashionable foxes from one to ninety-two, although it’s been said many times, many ways, we’re here to help you.
‘Tis the Season to Overdress
CM: It should come as a shock to absolutely no one that I love to dress up. And somehow despite the kerfuffle of layers with oversized coats, woven scarves, knit caps and wool mittens, I much prefer a fancy winter GRWM to a summer. I might run hot, but my soul is made of snowflakes—and you can quote me on that. My advice? Use the layering to your advantage and braid together texture, color and pattern for the desired result.
CM: With the exception of a play or self-proclaimed well-dressed dinner, I don’t typically have a busy agenda of holiday soirées on the December calendar. However, this very year, I will be in my best friend’s home staring longingly into the teeny tiny face of her newborn by day and attending their annual holiday party by night. AT LAST A HOLIDAY PARTY.
AB: We do in fact expect a fit pic CM (and one of a teeny tiny face for me personally)!
CM: Obviously I’ve had my outfit picked out since last year—you’ll find me in this Reformation drop waist dress (simple, elegant), paired with these sparkling tights (cue the glitz, the glam) and topped off with my trusty square-toe block heels (I refuse to buy new shoes for this occasion). It has all the elements I like: color, texture, pattern.
AB: There’s something so relieving about themed dressing. But year after year, even the best themes lose a bit of their sparkle. I’m feeling that this holiday season, so instead of reaching for the usual suspects sequins, rich jewel tones, and the obligatory bow-on-top, I’m going in a less obvious direction. That’s right: blush pinks, unexpected necklines, and the ever-groundbreaking FLORALS! I’m so excited about it I could shout it from the rooftops.
AB: I am also really vibing with the idea of pairing one of my closet hero pieces with something bolder. Mixing something I wear every single day with something that feels distinctly festive. Sometimes with holiday dressing, I get so swept up in the theme that I lose myself (melodramatic, yes, but true). I end up all dolled up in outfits I’m not even comfortable in and honestly, it shows. Don’t ask for the receipts. This entire thread is the essence.
AB: And lastly, something I’m only just learning, hair is the paid actor in your look. Don’t forget it. It can shift the entire vibe. If you’re planning to go glamorous with your outfit, consider an undone, unfussy hairstyle (think Greta Lee 95% of the time, or an obvi Olsen twins). And the reverse applies: if your outfit is quiet or soft, think polished, slicked back, or an up-do. Hair sets the tone more than we give it credit for. Just ask our girl Charlee.
CM: Don’t fret, we would never, ever, abandon you dear reader without our best holiday party fit list for those of you looking to play dress up.

CM: Literally can’t stop thinking about this.
CM: If the below doesn’t get you in the holiday spirit, I genuinely cannot assist you at this time.
AB: Two perfect and spot on celebrity examples of what I am trying to look like this holiday. Olivia Dean Duh. & Natalie Dyer of Stranger Things. Like do you guys know me at all!?!?
CM: Seeing this was like taking a breath after being underwater for all my life.
AB: Make that two of us. I’ll take one of each plz.
CM: Upon laying eyes on the new Jacquemus Valérie Bag, named after Simon Jacquemus’ mother, I fell instantly in love. Never, in my history of living on this earth, have I ever fallen for a Jacquemus anything. I don’t know what they’re up to over there, but the marketing has been flawless this season—I don’t say that lightly. Please also enjoy this beautiful commercial as tribute.
Sending you all things merry and bright. Ciao for now! xx
