Deep Cuts
CM: Part DEUX of this newsletter is to hopefully shed some light on how to navigate sale season, because it’s a LOT. I spend a whole lotta time waiting when I shop. There are few things I know that I will add-to-cart immediately, and those are items I know I won’t regret (and I probably know the return policy like the back of my hand).
CM: I think two things are always true when it comes to sale-ing.
Avoid the impulse, just because it’s on sale, doesn’t mean it’s right.
Would you pay full price? If so, close out of the tab, take a beat, and revisit tomorrow—the whole point of a sale is to encourage urgency, so fight the man!
CM: Let me give you some real-world context: when Reformation goes on sale, I buy one thing, maybe two, these are items that I have been watching, drooling over and debating at full price for 6 months or more. What was outside of my normal buying habits this year is the rug I purchased. This rug has been in my cart for TWO years, and this year it was at its lowest price. That’s how intimately I know this rug and the cost to purchase it. I’m picky and I’m patient, dare you to do the same.
AB: My best advice comes second hand (like most best things), when shopping try to challenge yourself to shop like a collector instead of a buyer (advice is from Gumshoe). Buying into the impulse of a sale is a road we don't want to go down. It's the lust that compels us to click “confirm purchase” but that wears off and never comes with the label of actual love. Save the sale opportunities like my dear friend says for items you’ve considered purchasing for some time, and for things you already buy! Stock up! That’s just being wise beyond your consumerism years.
AB: The key is to make a wish list (which we have advised more than once now)! Keep this list ongoing for years to come and future self will thank past self for being so organized, and thoughtful. A sale can come and go at the blink of an eye! Being prepared can only set you apart from the person blinded by the flashy ads.
Before You Go
CM: PHEW! That’s a lot of clicking. We hope you have the best of times adding to cart. And TBH there is very little on this list we wouldn’t buy for ourselves or the people we love. So know that there is no gatekeeping around here.
AB: Happy hunting and gathering season. May the sales be ever in your favor.
Happy holidays! Ciao for now. xx
