014: Guess Who’s Back? Back Again?
Keep your arms and legs inside the shopping cart at all times.
Welcome back losers.. ahem… we mean readers, we’re going shopping, again! Though Lindsay Lohan and Rachel McAdams will not be joining us. It’s part deux of our OR trend predictions for this coming year. And we *may* have saved the best for last.
Round 2! *ding ding ding*
AB: Gorpcore means what?! That's right, Good Ol’ Raisin and Peanuts my people. My grandma knew what it was, but I sure didn't.
CM: It is imperative that you all understand that “Gorp” *literally* means that. Like that is the definition, none of our cleverness has been added for dramatic effect.
AB: An aesthetic and trend (?) that hits a little close to home for Courtney and I. Last month I helped style a photoshoot with this entire aesthetic that is really trending with the youngsters these days, but as Courtney would put it, it’s just what our mothers wore on a day-to-day basis in the 90s. Picture outdoor wear made street style. I’ve been inspired by it myself. I kept a few items from the shoot actually! These cool kid sweats, sunnies (because you can never have too many of those), and this balaclava. Grab your Arteryx and ASICS, because I think we can bet on seeing more of this trend for 2024. Ask Miu Miu! Gorpcore is alive and well!
AB: For all my men out there, this trend report is for you. Skull hugging beanies of the 90s. I’m not saying the rolled brim is totally out, it’s just not as in. You already know because it’s gorping (coining this term*). Here’s David Beckham in one, for example. Straight leg denim stays for the boys—not sorry. On a more formal note, expect to see sport coats with texture, such as a tweed. Armani, Dior and Fendi all showed the woven fabric in their men’s runway as two-piece suits (think coastal grandpa). Not to mention the most popular style this year will be a double-breasted jacket. To me this isn’t just a trend, it's a forever thing.
CM: Are you taking notes people?! This is gold. It is currency!!
AB: Moving on! Casual ties, not just for business. Make ties cool again!! They have so much to offer. There is an endless amount of creativity wrapped into a tie. You can show so much personal style here (I even own and style ties myself!). The quirkier the better. I wanna see your dogs on your tie or small little men playing golf. Give me funky patterns or unexpected fabrics.
AB: Okay, NEXT! Speaking of the Beckhams, soccer jerseys. Futbol is the most popular sport on the planet, you know. Lastly, hold your breath for this one, but it’s true, a 5-inch hemline short for a hot boy summer. I don’t make the rules, I just share them. Or, Jacob Elordi makes them, and I’m simply the messenger.
CM: Honestly, whatever rules Jacob and David are making, I’m following. Who’s in charge over there? Rumor has it Elordi is styled by Wendi Ferreira and Nicole DeJulio and Beckham by Christopher Brown, so maybe check in with them if you like the vibe.
CM: So, I have this Jean Theory. And yes, it deserves the title case capitalization, because it’s that official. I think the return of skinny jeans is upon us. We all know that fashion trends are circular. History repeats itself, and ultimately there is nothing “new” anymore because we are pulling inspiration from something, always. Sidenote: that is the number one reason I like runway so much, because I am on the lookout for something legitimately new, untapped, never been done before, etc. etc.
CM: Let’s take a peek at the timeline, shall we?
2021 Skinny Jeans are out → 2022 Straight leg jeans now sit on the throne → 2023 we’ve entered the era of cargo pants, baggy and wide leg jeans → 2024 we continue wearing wide leg but begin transitioning into slimmer (still straight leg) jeans by fall

CM: Currently we’re still in the wide leg, horseshoe (or barrel) jean era with bootcut and slim leg jeans staking a claim. BUT I HAVE A SECRET. Capris are on their way back, which at first I felt iffy about but actually kinda love this for us, we saw them a few times last summer but not quite full-fledged, maximum potential. So if the cycle is to repeat itself, and slim leg jeans and capris are coming for us, then we will start to see a shift from baggy back to skinny. Reminder: true fashion trends move SLOW even though it can feel fast. I bet by fall 2025, or perhaps spring 2026, we’re breaking out the skinny jeans again. That’s not really a 2024 prediction per se, but still fun to observe nonetheless. All I’m saying is don’t throw out your skinny jeans, k?
CM: I have one last trend to share that has me so excited I’m like a lil’ bouncing fashion bunny just waiting to shop. Full skirts!!!!!!! I love them. I love them. I love them. Don’t worry, my mini and midi peeps, both are here to stay. But these are new on the scene and there is something so deliciously flirty about the flare that I just love. It’s giving 1950s, it’s giving poodle skirts, it’s giving royalty??? I love a layered maxi, it’s such an edgy tool to have in your handbasket and can completely elevate a look. Whether it’s a simple tank paired with some low-top sneaks and a full maxi skirt, or maybe a sheer full skirt with some white patterned tights, a long sleeve and flats? Ugh, bury me now. Skirts are the new pants, and they’re like way more fun.
Honorable Mentions
AB: As of, well today, CM and I will be participating in a 75 hard style challenge. For rules check this Tik Tok. But, essentially we will not be buying anything new for 75 days. On top of that we also have to actually get dressed INTENTIONALLY everyday. This will then force us to dive into our own closet in new and innovative ways. Wish us luck, and we will get back to you with our results, and absolute breakthroughs as I am sure they will come. We would also love for you readers to participate with us! We may need moral support. Seriously. Also, Court, we can’t forget to document this journey. I know you will but, I am putting it in writing amongst several witnesses as accountability for me lol. All of you remind me for check-ins okay?
CM: *runs out and buys everything in sight*
CM: If you haven’t picked up on my cries for help in the previous two newsletters, my shopping habits spiked big time as a clear S.O.S. I’ve been stocking up and vintage shopping in preparation for the turn to spring when this will INEVITABLY OVERLAP. But for real, check in on us. Shopping is like our #1 sport, okay? TBH this is going to be so fun. One of my goals this year is to lean into my personal style and to minimize outside inspiration. I’m just trying to feel something!!!!!! The world o’ fashion is so oversaturated, and I’m a primetime consumer, so it can be hard to fight the tidal waves which is why this reset is paramount.
Deep Cuts
AB: I couldn’t help but notice Amber Clark took a month off Instagram, so healthy and self aware of her. However, she’s back now and I forgot how much of an impact she makes on me! Immediately! That’s called influence… it’s never negative though, I don’t find myself wishing I was her, or that I had her things. What I end up doing is trying to find more ways to add creativity into every aspect of my life, such as she has conquered (so it seems). This is the inspiration that has led me to have a weekly creative date with myself each week. This week I went over to Inland Boutique and put some clothes together. It was great fun. Here’s photos to prove it. (:
CM: Not me totally noticing you following through on your goals, I SEE YOU AB, I SEE YOU. January can be so meh—I have been in a state of ennui. There’s so much excitement and momentum shoving you through the portal and into the new year, then there’s this heavy drop off. It totally got to me this year, so I got myself a cutie planner and I changed my morning routine. With the exception of being sick af this week, it has honestly made all the difference in my mood, my productivity and like general joy. I always hold the below reminder in my phone somewhere so that I can push myself out of a funk, and it makes all the difference!
AB: The Montana girl in me needs this. It just pulls at something in me even if it is ironic and impractical in every way.
CM: Okay wait, please buy that, it's so cute!!!!!!
CM: My vintage Victoria’s Secret slip dress arrived—it’s all legs—and it’s SO CUTE. Definitely a little daring for my badonkadonk so I may have to recruit mom to add a layer of lace at the bottom, but I’m so excited to style it that I bought a second one—oops. This one is more like a tie top vibe and I’m obsessed.
Before You Go
CM: Last week AB and I had the best coffee date. We didn’t even talk about fashion (can you imagine???) and it was so nutritious for my soul. All to say, call your friends!! Go get coffee! You never know what might boost your serotonin, but your favorite people usually do. Also, I then just stared deeply into her son’s adorable eyes and chatted with him for like half an hour—he’s so precious, you all should know.
AB: Currently sitting with my grandmother right now. The one who knew what Gorp was. She wants everyone to remember this week to be nice. When you say something check in and ask yourself, is it true? Is it nice? Is it necessary? Love that gma T wisdom.
Love you! Mean it. Ciao for now. xx
Great edition!
